Many people seem to still be confused with how Giant Eagle's Fuelperks and Foodperks programs work. You may be carrying around over a hundred dollars in savings without even knowing it! The following is a short, easy to read guide on understanding your Giant Eagle Advantage Card savings!

Fuelperks

Fuelperks were introduced a few years back as incentive for shoppers to switch over to Giant Eagle for all their shopping needs. For every fifty dollars spent at Giant Eagle, customers recieve ten cents off per gallon of gas at any GetGo gas station. Qualifying items include all food, sodas, water, hot foods items, pharmacy prescriptions, and gift cards. Purchases of Alcohol, tobacco, or lottery will not be awarded with fuelperks, as those items are prohibited by law.

Upon obtaining fuelperks, customers then have a '60 day' period to redeem their points. This is where many people get confused, as the actual expiration date is hardly ever 60 days past when the points were earned. Basically what this means is that if you acquire 10 cents on January 5th, you will have until March 31st to redeem your points. The actual expiration date the last day of the month, two months past the current month. So if I earn on 30 cents on April 17th, they will expire on July 31st. And so on.

Giant Eagle sometimes runs promotions in their gift card gallery, where you can earn 20 cents off per gallon of gas for all restaurant gift card purchases. These usually take place around the holidays and is a great time to stock up on cards. Don't forget that you can buy gift cards and use them yourself when you go out for dinner!

Fuelperks must all be redeemed at one time. If you have $2.10 off of your gas, you must use the entire $2.10 if you wish to use your perks. You cannot only use $2.00 or any other lower increment. However, if you have $4.00 in perks and gas is only $3.20, the remaining 80 cents will remain on your advantage card until they would normally expire. If this is the case, your card should automatically use the points that were first obtained so that your remaining points will roll over for as long as possible.

At the gas pump, it is a safety hazard to fill two vehicles without hanging the pump back up. Thus, GetGo only allows you fill one vehicle with your fuelperks. Customers are welcome to bring red can cans to get as much of their 30 gallons of gas as possible. Customers are never permitted to use fuelperks on more than thirty gallons of gas. If they do pump more than thirty gallons, they must pay full price for any gas over the 30 gallon limit. If you forget gas cans, some stations will allow you to bring cans back within 24 hours to redeem the remainder of your points. You are NOT able to bring another vehicle back during this time. One vehicle per fuelperks redemption.

Foodperks

Foodperks are entirely seperate from fuelperks. Using one will not affect the other in anyway. For every ten gallons of gas you pump at GetGo, you get 1% off of an order at Giant Eagle stores. Customers may only redeem up to 20% foodperks at one time, though just like fuelperks, more can be rolled over and saved onto your advantage card. If a customer pumps 12.6 gallons of gas, they will recieve 1% in foodperks and have 2.6 gallons towards redemption the next time they pump gas. While fuelperks have a 60 day expiration date, foodperks expire 90 days after being acquired. Thus if you acquire 4% through the month of January, you will have until the final day of April to redeem that 4%.

GetGo's and Giant Eagle's become extremely crowded on the last weekend of each month, especially during the last two days. If possible, try and beat the crowd by redeeming your points a few days ahead of time.

About redeeming foodperks: As stated, redeeming foodperks will not in any way affect your fuelperks. If you have a bill of $200 and you have 10% in foodperks, your bill will be cut down to $180. Your current foodperks percentage is multipled by your end bill to come up with your final total. Foodperks cannot be redeemed on alcohol, tobacco, lottery, or gift cards. Foodperks can only be used on orders of $300 or less. If you have a bill of $350, that additional $50 will not be included in the discount calculation.

Therefore, the maximum you can save per shopping trip is 20% foodperks on a $300 order, thus saving you $60! Any remaining perks roll over until their original expiration date.

Team Member Discounts

As a team member of Giant Eagle, the employee and any immediate family members are eligible to recieve 10% off Giant Eagle namebrand products each and every shopping trip. This includes Market Disrict, hot foods, and Value Time brand products. Each team member should be automatically enrolled in the savings. If they wish to share this 10% savings with family members, they must join them onto their own Giant Eagle Advantage Card. This also means that all fuelperks and foodperks will be shared among everyone connected to that card.

Giant Eagle employees also recieve a 15% discount off their monthly bill at Verizon Wireless. They also recieve 25% off of accessories for their phones. Anyone connected to the employees family plan is eligble for savings as well.

Giant Eagle also hosts weight loss competetions every year. Sign-ups begin towards the end of the year and often run from January through May. Employees are also eligible for discounts on certain fitness memberships and accessories.

I wish we had a Giant Eagle near us. Kroger is my current favorite. Nice job explaining how all this works for beginners. Voting up.

Thanks a lot! I shop at Kroger and Heinens if I can afford it that week... but giant eagle has some pretty solid weekly sales. Especially their buy one get one free meat deals.

How do you sign up for the team member discounts once you are an employee? Nobody has told me how to do this and I can't seem to find a way on my own.

Hi Edward,

You used to be able to sign up through the myhrconnection website at https://login.gianteagle.com/

I believe that they automatically enroll team members now, but if you are not seeing the discount show on your receipt after purchasing a Giant Eagle product, ask your front end leader to take a look at why you are not enrolled.
